Here is how to care for your Airplantman Kokedama! But first, if you don't know what our newest product is head here to learn more.
Open your new Airplantman Kokedama and kindly introduce yourself to your new plant friend. We use the epiphytic jungle cacti genus Rhipsalis and it's near relatives for our Kokedama and they are pretty great. Learn more about Rhipsalis here.
Watering is fun! Don't overdo it though, It is best to let your Airplantman Kokedama completely dry between waterings. This is both healthy for the Rhipsalis plant family we use and better for its wool cover. When your Airplantman Kokedama is dry to the touch and feels lighter when you pick it up, it’s a good time to water. Pull the felt back a bit where it meets the plant and gently pour a little bit of water at a time into our special soil-less but highly water absorbing potting mix. Avoid excess watering that wets the felt repeatedly which is unnecessary when rehydrating your Kokedama. Stay tuned as we are introducing a series of specialty watering products soon!
Your Rhipsalis plant will do best with indirect or morning light. Direct sun can damage their leaves making them perfect for many indoor or shady locations. Some sunlight is of course needed and it can take some experimentation to find the right light conditions for your Airplantman Kokedama—move it around until you find the best spot! In general Rhipsalis are hardy and with patience will reward you with new leaves and blooms to enjoy.
Our Kokedama are made from 100% hand-felted wool. Wool is absorbent, retains water, has good elasticity and resiliency as well as antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. But because wool is a natural material, some change in coloration or texture is to be expected over time. Warm water can be used to spot clean wool as needed. We enjoy watching each piece take on character over time.
While it is not necessary to fertilize your plant, Eleanor's VF-11 Plant Food can be mixed in water or sprayed on the leaves to promote growth and maintain longterm health.
