This Hollywood creative office courtyard features a custom stainless steel AirplantFrame aligned above a water feature. Whenever our pieces can be thoughtfully integrated into a space's overall design the results are spectacular! For this project Josh was still working at MTLA, Inc. which was responsible for the courtyard's landscape design. Wearing both the hats of landscape architect and Airplantman Josh collaborated with the team to create this remarkable installation and courtyard space. The young clientele of the office building frequently gather in the space for meetings, phone calls, and a break from screen time and computers to enjoy nature and the outdoors in the heart of the city. Amidst the tree aloes aloe bansii, custom benches and paving this piece adds a unique accent and focal point for building’s occupants. We love the opportunity to create installation like this when working with landscape architects, architects, and interior designers the result is invariable spectacular. Most gratifying though is seeing the building occupants enjoy the space, marveling at the uniqueness of air plants and watching them grow and bloom over time. For this piece we incorporated a variety of sun loving species as the project receives stronger sunlight and hotter temperatures than our coastal installations. Xerographica, duratii, and palacea were just some of the nearly 20 species of Tillandsia or air plants used in the planting palette. We 'broke' the frame in places by having plants spill out beyond the right geometric forms of the stainless steel frames. The combination of organic and sculptural plant forms contrasts well with the rectilinear forms of the frames and is only heightened by the repetition and relationship to adjacent elements. Successful designs often feel integrated in this way, the water feature breaking the plan of the wood bench, and plants breaking free from the edges of the frames while both are precisely aligned with each other. We love this project and enjoy visiting when we can!
